The families, in plain terms
- Clicky — bright, snappy presses with a fast attack; the closest thing to a blue switch. Start with clicky sounds.
- Thocky — low, rounded presses with a soft attack; calm rather than sharp. Start with thocky sounds.
- Tactile and linear — mid-weight everyday keystrokes, from clean single taps to smooth glides.
- Typewriter and vintage — clattery, characterful boards from earlier decades.
- Quiet — soft, low-volume voices for shared rooms.
- FX — playful sets: game blips, terminal chatter, piano notes.
How the browser preview works
Each card opens a pack page with an in-browser sound test covering the letter keys — the same keys every time, so differences come from the sound and not the test. The keyboard sound test page runs several packs side by side for a tighter A/B.
The desktop app is where the pack actually lives: it hooks your real keypresses and plays the sound system-wide on macOS, Windows and Linux. The app itself is free; packs are free or a small one-time purchase, with prices shown in the catalog.
What a pack contains
Each pack maps every key — 103 keys — with recorded press and release samples, and ships lossless audio. Source and license are credited on each pack's page; many samples come from open-source keyboard-sound projects.
If you are comparing apps rather than sounds, see the Mechvibes and Klack comparisons for the workflow and platform differences.
